Alpine lodges in Saalbach Hinterglemm
There are over 50 Alpine lodges to discover in the region around the Thurnerhof. In these traditional Alpine lodges, which are still managed by Alpine dairy farmers today, you can enjoy home-made cheese and fresh milk from cows in the neighbouring barns, and goats, pigs and even ibex romp around the wonderfully laid out sun terraces.
Alpine lodges in this guise are a long-standing tradition in the Alps. In summer, the cattle are still to this day taken up to higher lying Alpine pastures. Alpine dairy farmers look after their animals, milking them, then using this milk to make butter and cheese. Many of the original buildings are still preserved and in the cosy snugs and on the sun terraces you get to sample buttermilk and freshly made cakes.
Along with the traditional form of Alpine agriculture, Saalbach has contemporary mountain restaurants, which serve a menu of international meals, sophisticated wines and a new take on the traditional Alpine interior.
